The bottleneck controls everything. No matter how fast your other stations run, your total output is limited by your slowest constraint.

Look for: high utilization, growing queues, and stations where products pile up waiting to be processed.

🔧 The 5 Steps of TOC (Use in Module 5-6)

  • IDENTIFY the constraint (you just practiced this!)
  • EXPLOIT it — get every bit of capacity from the bottleneck
  • SUBORDINATE everything else — don't overproduce at non-bottlenecks
  • ELEVATE — invest in the bottleneck (upgrade equipment, add staff)
  • REPEAT — find the new bottleneck and start over
